Toothpick Flags Birthday Card

Hi everyone,

Just doing some late night crafting again! I needed a nap so bad today and it turned out to be longer than I intended and so now I'm wired.

Anyways, I made a birthday card for a co-worker tonight and I think I like how it turned out. As you know, I've been really trying to use up my stash, especially my scraps, first before breaking out and cutting up any more paper. This card with the exception of the white cardstock is made up of all scraps!!

After laying down the brown and green papers, I cut one of the layers of the birthday cake from the "celebrate with a flourish" cartridge and I modified that layer a little bit by cutting off the pedestal and the candles. Today, I also bought my first Tim Holtz products(GASP, I know...what a n00b), and I just got the broken china and the peeled paint distress inks. So after I cut my cake out, I embossed it with my cuttlebug using floral fantasy folder and then I went over the embossed image with broken china. It turned out much better than my standard stamping inks and only a little bit of ink is off the embossed part of it.

The main idea for making this style of card came from Amarilys's Scrappy Corner. She did a tutorial not too long ago about using your scraps and toothpicks to make your own flags. I think they turned out so cute and it's so super easy to do! You can check out her tutorial here. So I put those flags on the cake, added a few colorful and fun buttons and stamped "happy birthday" using the peeled paint distress ink and voila!

Then on the inside in the peeled paint color again it says, "Wishing you many happy moments of discovering new things in life. Have a wonderful birthday!"

**Revised**
I added a bit of ribbon last minute thanks to a suggestion from a friend!  I knew it was missing something!!

I really hope she likes it as I want to make a good first impression at work as a paper crafter. I wasn't so sure I liked the blue floral cake against the brown and green background but at the same time it's a birthday and birthdays are fun and colorful and I kind of like how it pops out b/c of the contrasting colors.

Here's hoping she likes it!
Thanks for looking and have a great Saturday everyone!!
